ITS Congresses connect the worlds of mobility, technology and innovation, bringing together experts, policy makers and stakeholders from industry and academia to push the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) sector ever forward. As the challenges posed by mobility transcend borders, these congresses address not only local and national issues but also global ones, promoting a worldwide dialogue on intelligent mobility solutions.
Organised by ERTICO every two years in Europe and every three years in the EMEA region for the ITS World Congress, these events are at the forefront of ITS collaboration and innovation worldwide.
The 30th ITS World Congress, under the motto ‘Mobility Driven by ITS’, organised this year in Dubai, marks a historic occasion as the first ITS World Congress in the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the commitment of ERTICO and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the two main organisers, to push the boundaries of intelligent mobility. Dubai, a beacon of futuristic development and entrepreneurial spirit, offers the perfect setting for the ITS World Congress. Its strategic location fosters a unique exchange of ideas and innovations, advancing the ITS industry.
With up to 20,000 participants, 170 sessions, 650 international speakers and more than 300 exhibitors, the event includes plenary sessions, technical sessions, exhibitions and demonstrations. The focus was on some of the key topics of the current debate: urban and clean mobility, innovation and digitisation in transport and logistics, and autonomous driving vehicles.
TTS Italia certainly couldn't miss it, together with AlmavivA, DataInfomobility, GEO.works, Pluservice and Sinelec, gathered on the stand of the Association, which this year, by the way, celebrates its first 25 years!
And our September monthly newsletter is dedicated precisely to the ITS World Congress and to the members who actively participated in the TTS Italia stand, and whom we thank very much indeed! |

AlmavivA has developed the MOOVA platform aiming at intercepting new trends in mobility and related needs. The platform is based on international standards and cloud ready, capable of connecting different modes of transport in a single and advanced technological framework. During the ITS World Congress, AlmavivA presented the most innovative MOOVA solutions for the sustainable development of the transport system in the cities of the future, while keeping an eye on the needs of citizens. Mobility as a Service through the MaaS, the new way of experiencing the road thanks to the C-ITS services of the Smart Road, and the careful and intelligent direction of the Mobility Centre are the MOOVA tools that AlmavivA experts presented in Dubai for the management of the Smart City, designed to meet the needs of users, citizens and travellers. The MOOVA solution for MaaS, thanks to the use of the most advanced digital technologies, and above all to a natively multimodal and multi-operator design, overcomes the idea of station-to-station transport and is the ideal tool to enable the new concept of mobility as a service more in line with the needs of today's citizens. Users are at the centre of the transport system even when using private vehicles. Co-operative services (C-ITS) of the Smart Road enable the road user and the road network manager to share information and use it to increase safety and driving comfort and to improve traffic management efficiency. The MOOVA platform is able to manage and monitor all sub-systems and technologies for the Smart Road. Finally, the Mobility Centre built on the MOOVA platform offers a single view to manage, coordinate and monitor mobility in the territory, integrating public and shared transport with the use of private vehicles; it allows to manage traffic flows, optimise transport efficiency, improve mobility accessibility and reduce environmental impact.
“AlmavivA is increasingly present in the Middle East, to meet the challenges and opportunities offered by the market for innovation in the mobility and logistics sector. Together with TTS Italia we are participating in the ITS World Congress event, to consolidate our positioning in this region. Thanks to the skills and know-how acquired in important projects developed on the MOOVA Platform, we promote and enhance the Made in Italy with innovative solutions dedicated to the different verticals of sustainable and integrated mobility”. These were the words of Francesco Piccinonno, Smart Road & Traffic Manager for AlmavivA, on the event. |

The systems presented at the ITS World Congress in Dubai were passenger information displays (so-called ‘bus stop signs’) installed at bus stops. These devices are based on e-ink display technology, with displays available in various sizes, specifically 13”, 14”, and 28”, designed to provide clear and visible information to passengers, even in bright sunlight. Thanks to the innovative e-ink technology, the display offers high contrast and optimal readability without the high energy consumption typical of traditional screens.
E-ink technology only consumes energy when the displayed information changes, allowing the display to maintain an extremely low power consumption. This means that a battery-powered system, properly sized, can enable the bus stop sign to operate for about three years, requiring minimal maintenance and reducing operational costs, while also ensuring ease of installation. Among all the sizes, the 14” and 28” e-ink displays presented are the latest releases from E-ink. This demonstrates how DataInfomobility stays aligned with technological evolution and in constant update. Thanks to their low consumption and long battery life, e-ink displays are environmentally sustainable, reducing energy impact compared to traditional LCD or LED displays.
“We are proud to present an innovative and sustainable technological solution that meets the needs of modern urban mobility. Our systems based on e-ink technology ensure efficiency, reliability, and a reduced environmental impact, offering high-quality service to citizens for many years without requiring frequent interventions. We believe the future of public transport lies in smart, energy-efficient solutions” says Giovanna Quarto, Senior R&D Engineer at DataInfomobility srl. |
