Workshop "The impact of ITS on CO2 reduction": here are the results
Reduction of travel time by 20%, higher safety between 10-15%, CO2 reduction by 10% on national basis and up to 20% on local basis. These are only some of the positive effects due to ITS solutions and applications. Traffic lights, tutor systems, systems for traffic management and control, infomobility services, satellite navigation systems and devices can drastically reduce levels of congestion and pollution, ensuring a better safety. For example, a basic satellite navigation system, a static one, not able to offer real time information, can reduce fuel consumption by 12%. These are some of the results showed by the study realized by TTS Italia and presented on the last 15th of June in Rome within the Workshop "The impact of ITS on CO2 reduction".
The study, coordinated by Professor Vito Mauro, from Mizar, TTS Italia founding member, has been realized within a Work Group involving companies, research entities, national and local public administration. Among them: Ministry of Transport, Atac, the agency for the mobility in Rome, Mizar, TTS Italia founding members, Enea, Politecnico of Milan, Politecnico of Turin, Octo Telematics and Thetis, TTS Italia ordinary members and the Italian Ministry for the Environment.
Low investments costs, strong industrial multiplier, the opportunity to export Italian technology abroad and high reduction of CO2 emissions and level: ccording to Professor Vito Mauro, as well as to participants to the round table, these are the key points of ITS in Italy.
Italy is one of the European countries with higher congestion level with 975.455 millions of passengers –Km/year, of which the 92,24% chose the road with 64 million of tons/year of CO2. This is a value that could be reduces thanks to ITS after the reduction registered during the first months of 2010 but mainly tied to the general economical crisis.

Workshop "Policies for the management of two wheels transport in urban areas"
It was held on the 30th of June the Workshop "Policies for the management of two wheels transport in urban areas" organized by TTS Italia in Rome.
Two wheels means of transport play nowadays a key role in the issue of the road safety and it becomes more and more urgent to find new technological solutions as more effective as possible. The Workshop was opened by Massimiliano Zazza, from the Italian Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport, TTS Italia founding member, and Chairman of the technical-scientific Committee of TTS Italia.
Then, it was presented the position paper realized within the TTS Italia Work Group on the management of two wheels transport, coordinated by Professor Antionio Musso from "La Sapienza" University, TTS Italia ordinary member. The position paper showed the high potential of ITS systems in the policies for the management of the two wheels transport in urban areas, evaluating costs and benefits as well as the best strategies to promote such tools.
The round table discussed problems and solutions concerning two wheels users safety such as infrastructures, training and urban traffic. Some cases studies have been presented in which ITS can play a key role to monitor vehicles but also to guarantee a higher safety for users. To the round table participated: ACI, TTS Italia founding member, ANCMA (National Association for motorcycles), Agenzia Roma Servizi per la Mobilità and Napolipark, TTS Italia ordinary members, "Fondazione Luigi Guccione" and the University "La Sapienza" of Rome.
Finally, the results of the investigation on two wheels vehicles safety in Rome, realized by ACI and Agenzia Roma Servizi per la Mobilità were presented.

ENI chooses EGNOS Commercial Service
ENI, Italian leading oil company, has chosen to adopt EGNOS Commercial Service for the remote monitoring of its fleet, thanks to the SCUTUM Project. The SCUTUM Project (SeCUring the EU GNSS adoption in the dangeroUs Material transport), coordinated by Telespazio, TTS Italia ordinary member, is managed by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA) within the VII Framework Program.

Istituto Superiore Mario Boella participates in ESOF 2010
Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB), TTS Italia ordinary member, represented by Mr. Paolo Mulassano, will be participating on the 6th of July in a special session at ESOF 2010 – EuroScience Open Forum, which will be held in Turin from 2nd to 7th of July 2010. ESOF is the pan-European biennial dedicated to scientific research and innovation. At ESOF, scientists, researchers, ITS stakeholders from all over the world discuss news technologies.

Pluservice at Transport Research Arena in Brussels
It was held from 7th to 10th of June the Transport Research Arena (TRA 2010), in Brussels, an important international conference on transport. To the conference participated as speaker, Monica Giannini, responsible for research activities in Pluservice, TTS Italia ordinary member, and the only company from Marche region, in the centre of Italy, to be involved in the conference. Ms. Giannini explained the role played by Pluservice in the STADIUM Project, funded by the European Union, as demonstrative and experimental phase of innovative systems for the transport management. Pluservice projected and produced the centre for the monitoring and control of a fleet for passengers between the station and the main touristic sites of Cape Town, in South Africa. The system, realized in occasion of the World cup 2010, has been conceived for the management of integrated public transports during big events, to ensure an intelligent management of means which move only if the service is required by passengers (bus on demand). The system will be kept also after the World Cup and it will be extended to nearly 500 vehicles. Moreover, the system is ready to be used also in other occasions such as the Olympic Games in Brazil.

It has been published on "Telematics and Transport" the text "Basic Technologies of telematics for transport, with investigations on methods and applications" by Professor Bruno Dalla Chiara from Politecnico of Turin, TTS Italia ordinary member. Starting from a view on the needs of transport, logistics and mobility, the text focuses on technological innovation and telematics for transport from its basic elements: telecommunication networks, localization systems, automatic identification, information systems, electronic data interchange, tools for single vehicles and fleets monitoring. Then, applications and benefits coming from the integration of telematics systems are analized as well as the role of telematics in multimodal transport.
