Workshop "ITS impact for CO2 reduction"
On 15th of June it will be held in Rome the Workshop "ITS impact for CO2 reduction" organized by TTS Italia. The main objective of the Workshop is to present the results of the Working Group on "ITS impact for CO2 reduction". The Group involved firms, research entities, National and local Public Administrations with the aim to define the real impact of ITS on the reduction of CO2 emissions, through the analysis of available data and best practices. The study can represent a good support to Public Administration decisions on ITS investments. To the workshop have been invited the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Italian Ministry for the Environment.
After the presentation of the study, the round table "ITS and environment: advantages and means of implementation" will be held: have been invited to participate representatives of Italian Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport; Federmobilità, ANAS, ENEA, Centro Ricerche Fiat, Atac, Presidents of Environment Commissions of Chamber and Senate, 5T, Politecnico of Milan, University of Naples and Municipality of Milan to discuss the opportunities offered by ITS for CO2 reduction. The workshop has been organized also in consideration of the future development of the ITS Action Plan and of the related Directive on ITS which are under discussion at the European Parliament. In the framework of the event, an exhibition of the last ITS solutions and products will be organized.

TTS in action

National workshop on "RFID standards and technologies for the development of a sustainable mobility"
On the 11th of June 2010, the workshop on "RFID standards and technologies for the development of a sustainable mobility" will be held in Pisa, Italy, organized by the Department of Engineering of University of Pisa. The event is sponsored by TTS Italia and Club Italia. The morning session of the workshop is dedicated to the development of RFID applications in support of private traffic management and goods urban distribution. This session will be moderated by Massimiliano Zazza, Chairman of the Technical-Scientific Committee of TTS Italia. Among the scheduled papers, 5T of Turin, TTS Italia ordinary member. The evening session will discuss electronic ticketing and speeches will be made by Atac, TTS Italia founding member; Elsag Datamat, TTS Italia ordinary member; and 5t again.

TTS Italia technical activities 2010: meeting among coordinators, universities and the Chairman of the Technical-Scientific Committee
On the last 28th of May, at TTS Italia, in Rome, was held the meeting among Mr. Massimiliano Zazza, Chairman of the Technical Scientific Committee of TTS Italia, the coordinators of the Working Groups and Universities involved in the Technical-Scientific activities for the 2010 divided in 4 macro areas: criteria for efficiency and effectiveness for road transport and the integration of the information on traffic; continuity of ITS services for the management of traffic and goods; ITS and safety; integration vehicle-infrastructure. The aim of the meeting was to present and discuss the structure of the documents related to each Work Package, as well as to underline objectives and activities.

News of the month

Mizar and Elsag Datamat win tender for the supply of traffic monitoring equipment
Mizar Automazione, TTS Italia founding member, and Elsag Datamat, TTS Italia ordinary member, has won together, in a temporary association of interest, the tender for the supply and implementation of an information system and safety systems to support the public transport fleet. The final value of the tender is 970 000 Euros.

Mizar in Morocco
Works for the implementation of the Flashnet system in Rabat tramway are continuing. Fleshnet is the system developed by Mizar Automazione, TTS Italia founding member, for the public transport. Before the end of 2010, works will be finished on the light metropolitan of the Moroccan city and Flashnet will manage 44 tramway trains realized by Roiret Trasport.

Synchronized traffic lights for Turin buses with 5t
Buses in Turin will have the priority at traffic lights like tramways. The aim is to increase the commercial speed, especially in the northern area of the city where the congestion level is very high. During the peak hours, it is quite frequent for buses to accumulate delay and then to leave all together from the last stop. To try to solve the problem, the councillorship for transport of Turin, Gtt and 5t, TTS Italia ordinary member, have proposed to extend the priority at traffic light also to buses. This is also to support public transport, to leave the private car at home and reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, the number of kilometers dedicated to buses lanes will be extended and a surveillance system will be introduce on bus lanes to fine private vehicles that use them.
